Larzon DSR capsule is a combination of two drugs: Esomeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Domperidone (a dopamine antagonist). Esomeprazole works by blocking an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid. Domperidone and Esomeprazole belongs to the group of medicines called Prokinetic Drugs and Proton pump inhibitors respectively. It is used in adults to manage peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (tumors in pancreas causing the stomach to secrete more acid).
Peptic ulcers are painful sores that develop on the linings of the stomach, esophagus and/or intestines. It causes severe stomach pain with sensation of flatulence, indigestion, vomiting and fatigue.
Larzon DSR capsule is effective in managing peptic ulcer caused either due to stomach infection or due to prolong use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It can also be used to manage re-bleeding from the ulcers.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive disease in which the acid from the stomach frequently flows into the esophagus leading to irritation of lining of food pipe. Symptoms include heartburn, chest pain, nausea, sensation of lump in throat and stomach discomfort. GERD is caused by frequent acid reflux or reflux of nonacidic content from the stomach.
When you swallow, a circular band of muscle around the bottom of the esophagus, called the lower esophageal sphincter, relaxes to allow food and liquid to flow into the stomach. Then the sphincter closes again.
If the sphincter does not relax as is typical or it weakens, stomach acid can flow back into the esophagus. This constant backwash of acid irritates the lining of the esophagus, often causing it to become inflamed.
What are the complications of GERD?
Without treatment, GERD can sometimes cause serious complications over time, such as esophagitis, esophageal stricture, and Barrett’s esophagus, as well as complications outside the esophagus.
Complications outside the esophagus
Some people with GERD develop complications outside the esophagus, in the mouth, throat, or lungs. These complications may include asthma, chronic cough, hoarseness,laryngitis-inflammation of your voice box that can cause you to lose your voice for a short time, wearing away of tooth enamel .
Larzon DSR capsule acts by reducing the production of gastric acid. It also speeds up the movement of food from the stomach to the intestines, thereby reducing the signs of nausea, vomiting and acid reflux. Due to these actions, it can also reduce the unpleasant signs of GI tract such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, burping, bloating, acidity or heartburn.
